How many lies does it take to make a person a liar? It only takes one. It’s just like stealing. Would you trust your little sister in your bedroom if she was known to steal your things? Of course not! If someone continuously lies to you, do you still trust what they say? Again, of course not. If lying bothers you when someone lies to you, why should you lie to your parents? Lying is one of those sins that gets worse and worse the longer you do it. 😦
Lying began early – at the very beginning of creation. God put a commandment against it in the Ten Commandments!
~Leviticus 19:11 Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.
Lying can also become a habit which is hard to break. If a girl is an habitual liar before she gets saved, she will have a hard time stopping unless she yields herself completely to the Holy Spirit. He’s the one who can help in times of need.
~Colossians 3:9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
Teenager, if you are truly born again, you have put on the “new man” and should have put off the old man and your old sins, according to Colossians 3:9. Have you put off the old man and old sins? If not, this is a priority in your spiritual life.
The Bible says that lying is despised of God. Proverbs 6:16-19 says there are seven things that God hates and lying is one of those seven things:
~Proverbs 6:16-19 These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
God not only hates lying but He considers it an abomination! An abomination is something that God really hates. In fact, that definition means “extreme hatred; detesting”! Wow, that is exactly what God said in His Word about homosexuality (same-sex relationships). Seriously? Lying is on the same level in God’s eyes.
~Proverbs 12:22 Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.
Teen girl, if you struggle with the sin of lying, your prayers will never be answered! 😦
~Isaiah 59:2-3 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath muttered perverseness.
Don’t you want your prayers answered? Don’t you want to have good success in your life? (Joshua 1:8) If so, you are to hate lying. By reading God’s Word and letting it settle in your heart, you will come to discover that you hate the things that God hates as well.
~Psalms 119:163 I hate and abhor lying: but thy law do I love.
Hate the right things, teenager. Love the things of God – love His Word – love His Holy Spirit as He teaches you and gives you wisdom. Just because you are young in years does not mean that you can’t be wiser than most adults when it comes to God’s Word. Even the young are given wisdom:
~Psalm 119:130 The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
