Kindness

kindness_isWe hear so much about “random acts of kindness” nowadays. It’s sad that such publicity has to be given to make people aware the need for kindness, isn’t it? The Scriptures teach kindness throughout.

In fact, the Lord Jesus Christ displayed the best act of kindness by dying in our place!

Shouldn’t Christians be the first people to display kindness to a lost and dying world? We shouldn’t need reminders from the lost world to be kind, amen? So how are you doing in this area of kindness, teen girl?

Ephesians 4:31-32 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Do you carry a grudge when your older sister or little brother annoys you? Do you have “attitude” when your parents ground you for neglecting to be obedient in a certain area? Do you like it when someone in your family treats you badly? Of course not! So just as you don’t like to be mistreated, don’t turn around and do it to someone else. Jesus taught us to treat others as WE want to be treated:

Matthew 7:12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

You can overcome a bad attitude by totally devoting yourself to God and His Word. It is the Bible that will help you to overcome any selfishness you may have.

Yes, having a bad attitude is selfish. It shows that you care more about yourself then how you treat others.

Luke 10:27 And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself.

When you’re in the Bible and obeying what God commands of you, you will have peace in your heart. You will have that desire to be kind and to follow Christ’s pattern of kindness and mercy.

1 Corinthians 13:4 Charity suffereth long, [and] is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up,

Kindness is a reaction of the body and mind to what is already in the heart. You don’t see a grumpy old man being kind 🙂 So do some moral inventory on your heart, teen girl. Do you desire to be kind? Are you only kind when you feel like it? That will tell you where your heart’s at. The Bible says in the verse above that love suffers long – you keep your patience (even when you don’t agree with what’s being said) because you love that person. Love doesn’t envy other girls’ situations. Love doesn’t think more of herself than others.

When you have a handle on love, your heart changes and you are more apt to be kind to others 🙂
